Brazilian Society of Clinical Neurophysiology
Dr. Karl Kothbauer
The news of Dr. Karl Kothbauer’s death shook the IOM world. We all know the fantastic work of him and Dr. Fred Epstein in determining the importance of the D wave in intramedullary tumor surgery. This concept has become a regulatory benchmark in these surgeries. The application of D-wave was based on the concepts established by Vahe Amassian. This trio has its name marked in the history of Medicine and will be remembered for many generations to come.
In Brazil, some pioneers had the unique opportunity to witness all these happenings in real time. It inspired us and a whole new generation of neurophysiologists to seek knowledge and excellence in care.
Dr. Karl Kothbauer also leaves the legacy of ISIN, where he began meeting with a dozen colleagues and saw the society reaching 5 continents. Together there are hundreds of us nowadays.
